Many years ago, many roofs in Norway were covered with crazy paving.
This is a tradition that is more or less gone, and today flagstones are used mainly on cottages. In the Alps in Italy and Switzerland it is still a tradition to use crazy paving on roofs, and much of it is Alta Quartzite. They are large and heavy, and give buildings a particularly solid expression. Roofs must be dimensioned for the use of crazy paving.
