Hjeltefjorden Fjordpark – coastal nature, quality and Alta Quartzite

Hjeltefjorden Fjord Park is a modern coastal facility where material selection, landscape and architecture are carefully coordinated to create a robust, durable and holistic expression. In the project, Alta Quartzite is used throughout in both outdoor areas, structures and buildings, contributing to a clear local anchoring to the fjord landscape.

 Drywall and machine-made stone in Alta Quartzite are used for terrain walls and level differences. The massive stone gives the structures weight, stability and a natural expression that ages beautifully over time, while the walls blend seamlessly into the surrounding landscape.

 Walking zones and living areas are paved with durable paving slabs in Alta Quartzite , delivered in 40 cm widths with varying lengths . This provides a living surface with high wear resistance, good slip resistance and a long service life – well suited for pedestrians, service vehicles and public use in a weather-exposed coastal environment.

 The buildings in the fjord park are clad with Alta Quartzite tiles on both roofs and facades , creating a holistic and seamless expression. When the same material is used on both surfaces, the distinction between roof and wall is erased, and the buildings appear as clear, monolithic volumes in the landscape. The slate's natural surface and play of colors emphasize the architectural touch and provide a timeless expression with minimal maintenance requirements.

 Hjeltefjorden Fjord Park is a good example of how Alta Quartzite can be used consistently and holistically – from landscape and infrastructure to buildings and details – to create lasting solutions with high aesthetic and functional quality in public outdoor spaces.
